1960's Gibson RB-100 original 5 string with original hard shell case

Gibson RB-100 Model 5 String Resonator Banjo (1957), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 564177, dark mahogany with sunburst resonator finish, maple rim and resonator, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

The RB-100 was Gibson's 1960's sub-Mastertone style banjo; it is similar in appearance with the full one-piece flange-resonator setup of the fancier models but has plain cosmetics and a simpler brass tone ring. The sound is not as powerful as the full Mastertone-tone ring models but still quite vibrant and with considerable volume. An excellent and versatile workhorse of a vintage Gibson.

Overall length is 37 3/4 in. (95.9 cm.), 11 in. (27.9 cm.) diameter head, and 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 26 1/4 in. (667 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/16 in. (30 mm.). There is a sliding 5th string capo mounted to the neck. A cool gigging 1960's period Gibson banjo, not a full Mastertone but with a good solid folk/stringband sound. Overall Very Good + Condition.
